Finally getting back to one of my favorite restaurant cities. It has been over 3 years and it looks like a lot has changed. We are looking to come in the middle of November for a four day stay. We would like to do at least one tasting/splurge menu. Also we are a fan of regional/international cuisine. I don't mind spending some $ but I do like to get a good value for my money. We are staying near Navy Pier (Streeterville) but know how to negotiate the El, so we are open to more than downtown areas. To give an idea of what we are about - last time we did Tanta, Frontera Grill (for the first time; we usually do Topolobampo), Mott Street, Zoco, snacked our way through Devon Street, and did a run through Eataly.
So far I have just concentrated on the most difficult reservations and have reserved at The Girl and the Goat. Sooo...
Elske - worth it? Heard a few bad reviews, they do a great dessert program I hear and they do a non-alcohol pairing for their tasting menu which are pluses for me.
El Ideas - could not reserve last time. I have heard consistently amazing things. What is the price? I heard it was $155 inclusive, byob.
Boka - their 7 course seems like a reasonable $120.
Other ones on the short list - Fat Rice, Publican, Purple Pig, Siena Tavern, Giant, avec, Cellar Door Provisions, Pastoral (for a quick sandwich for lunch or light dinner after big lunch, Mi Tocaya Antojeria.
We will pretty much eat anything. I do not drink alcohol but that is my only restriction. We tend to eat early, so for places that do not reserve, that is probably in our favor.
Thanks Chowhounders. Looking forward to seeing what you have to say.
