let's face it-chicago is THE chowhound city, CT's aside
having paid 2 recent visits, last fall, after not having been there in almost 20 years(since spending a few years in beautiful hyde park) i have got to say that chicago has more variety and more great places to eat than one could attempt to eat at in one's lifetime..the only consistent disappointments(because they were so ordinary) were the imitation french bistos-
but american cusine seems to be celebrated here day in and day out...pan pizza, scrumptious hot dogmeals, and new american eg mexican, central south american....well,
my wife says to keep my mouth shut, and don't let the world know of america's secret...but i just have to scream it out!!!eat here! eat now!
and be prepared to come home sated with some change left in your pocket....
so let's get some of everyone's suggestions...
my humble contributions:
pan pizza gino's east on n rush
mexican-what else? frontera grill
upscale american-zinfandel's-fronteras sister restaurant
add erwin's in lincoln park to upscale american(best hamburger we EVER ate)
