Chicagoans—including a vegetarian—won't shut up about GW Fins!

We had the most wonderful dinner at GW Fins. Our visit—sans reservations and dinner attire, really—was prompted because this vegetarian saw several vegetable sides on the menu. Man, I had no idea what was in store for me! The kitchen made probably the most fantastic vegetarian plate I've ever had, filling it with nearly every veggie accompaniment on the menu. And my boyfriend, who is almost done with classical French culinary training, was blown away by the beautiful bouillabaisse, which has certainly set a new standard in his eyes.

The service was delightful; the wine list was generous and quite reasonably priced. Next time we're in New Orleans—not soon enough, mind you—we will without a doubt be back at GW Fins, 808 Bienville St., (504) 581-3467,

PS: A tasty, inexpensive vegetarian meal (or non-vegetarian, if you prefer) can be had at Salt & Pepper Restaurant, Iberville and North Peters streets. Fresh Pakistani food, sweet service and seriously low prices. The two of us gorged ourselves for less than $20.
