I'll be in SF late Tuesday night through Thursday, and am seeking rec's for (1) a late night snack when I get in (after 10:00 p.m.) and (2) dinner in Chinatown the following night. Regarding the "snack," I'll be coming off a marathon of air travel that will begin from a business appointment in Charleston, WV and end 8 hours later in SF, so I'll be looking for something stimulating. I'm thinking about going to the Clift for a drink at the Redwood Room and eats at Asia de Cuba, but that's just because that's one of my only reference points in your city. Basically, I will want something amusing (and in fact I'd like to try to maximize the West Virginia/SF culture shock), but I would like to keep it within a reasonable walk or short taxi ride of Union Square.
Wednesday night I know I'll be looking for something fantastic in Chinatown. My only experience so far was a less than impressive lunch at House of Nanking (so you can see why I'm posting here!) Chicago has some good Chinese, but I am really anxious to try the classic Cantonese style in SF. What do you think is the very best, the most classic representation of the style? As Antoine's is to Creole, as Peter Luger is to steakhouses; what is "the" Cantonese restaurant?
