Help an Chicago hound find a truly romantic place

Can you help direct me?
I will be back in LA again in a few weeks. While there, I expect to pop the question (yes, THAT question) and, of course, I expect to return home a new and engaged man. We'll be up in the Sierras for a few days which is where the actual question popping will take place; but I would like to find a terribly romantic place place to celebrate on our return. Which, unfortunately, requires it to be a Monday night. In Chicago, that's a tough night. I'm hoping that's not true for LA. But either way, that's the night we're stuck with.
As to cuisine requirements, there really aren't any. We both like almost everything. She does live in S. Pasadena and we won't want to spend the better part of the evening in the car going and coming. Price no object (although her appetite is petite and so extravagantly expensive--even if worth it--is probably unwise).
For those of you who aren't certain what I mean by romantic, think Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn on the Seine at night in "Charade." (Although, I concede, Grant and Hepburn in a sleazy diner would probably ooze 'romantic' too.)
If ya need other info, just ask.
Thanks a million...
a Lucky Fella
P.S. If the movie reference and tag line at the top didn't already suggest it, I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea to mention that we're not "young things." I'm 50, she's 40, just in case that makes a difference to your recommendation (and it's time #1 for us both!)
