chicago - blackbird and beer

I'm visiting Chicago next week for a conference. I'll be staying in Glen Ellyn but am willing to drive to wherever the food is. I'm considering having dinner at Blackird, but was wondering if I will need to make reservations? If I only get two evenings, is Blackbird worth one of those dinners or is my time and money better spent elsewhere?

(I realize there are a million posts about where to go when visiting Chicago; I'm not neccessarily asking for suggestions as I can read the board, although they are welcome. I'm more interested in getting a few perspectives on Blackbird in particular.)

I'm also curious about locally brewed beer - I'd like to visit a small brewpub/brewery or something like that. I prefer Ales, Lagers, or Wheat type beers to Porters or Stouts, but I am a true beer lover and will try anything if it's good.
