I had to check out Chez Eric since I heard that it was under new ownership...and WOW was I glad that I had revisited one of my fav places in the Gatineau Hills. I had to share my wonderful experience in support of this tiny little gem - and in gratitude to the Chef / Owner, Che Chartrand, who was so sweet and entertaining.
The dinner menu still features a selection of specials posted on a chalkboard (like in the past) which apparently is rotated daily at lunch and dinner, the chairs still don't match, local artists are still featured on the restaurant walls, the staff is still as warm and friendly as ever and the food was quite simply superb. The place did look more polished than I remember but the ambiance was still casual. I had a homemade wild mushroom soup to start, followed by lobster ravioli accompanied by succulent monster shrimp (they really were huge!) My husband had the steak which was cooked to perfection. Unfortunately we were too full to try the desserts but they looked wonderful. The bill was surprisingly low since the quality and caliber of that food in Ottawa would have been double. I definitely recommend Chez Eric and will be heading back again soon! This is definitely a hot new spot on the Ottawa - Gatineau Hill dining scene!!!
