Not sure if this place has been discussed lately, but I had brunch here on Sunday and it was absolutely fantastic - simple yet highly satisfying.
I don't know when Chestnut opened but I was heading to Banania for brunch Sunday when I walked by what used to be Trixie's bar on Smith and saw this place. They had steak and eggs on the menu which I suddenly had a craving for so me and my girlfriend dropped in. Great space - clean, open, sunny and cozy. For 8 bucks I got the best steak I've had in years, with the possible exception of Peter Lugers, but that cost a wee bit more than 8 bucks. Perfectly charred on the outside and HOLY COW a chef who actually knows what Medium Rare means and can deliver it. I was ecstatic. Coffee was perfect and plentiful, the service was spot on, and they delivered on a pet peeve of mine, which is butter for your bread that is not so frozen that you cant spread it and not so warm that you need to pour it.
Girlfriend had scrambled eggs with leeks and smoked fish - i didn't try it as i don't like leeks but it looked good to me. We'll definitely try dinner there soon.
