[Cheshire/Stockport - Cheadle] Bay Tree

Not a specific review but some general comments about this fab neighbourhood restaurant, which is a regular haunt of ours.

A short menu which changes every couple of months and offers two courses for £17.95 and three for £19.95. It's a bit cheaper if you're seated by 6.45 (but that's middle of the afternoon for me). Some of the mains carry a couple of quid supplement and/or you might think you need a extra side order. You'll get away with £25 a head easily.

On the current menu, amongst the eight starters, are two with local produce interest:

Mrs Kirkhams Tasty Lancashire Twice Baked Souffle with Spinach Cream
Fresh Tabley Game Pate wrapped in Parma Ham served with Onion Bread, Beetroot Chutney and Rocket Salad

Mains include organic rare breed pork belly with confit pork & apple pie; sage mash; madeira honey jus. Or fillet of red bream on ham hock & spring onion potato cake, pea puree, asparagus, crsipy pancetta.

Desserts are the pretty much standard creme brulee, chocolate mousse sort - but get this one (for two to share) - a whole Cheshire baked brie, served with breadsticks, apple & celery.

Perhaps unsurprisingly at this good value, the place is always packed and reservations are pretty much essential. It's the sort of place every neighbourhood wants and needs - not for special occasions but just when you want to go out for dinner in nice surroundings with good service without needing a second mortgage.
