Four Chowhounds had an impressive meal at this tiny South Indian spot that is far too popular for its size. This area has become the Virginia epicenter for the South Indian community, and this place comes up with the goods. We had:
Set Dosai Vadacurry
Chennai Thalappakattu Biryani (weekends only)
I've never had anything quite like the set dosai vadacurry, which were doughy pancakes made of rice and lentils served with a curry made thick with minced legumes. It was a dream of a dish.
The kotthu parotta was served fresh, hot, and fluffy. The special biryani is made with a distinctive super-short grain rice called seeraga samba and plenty of diced mutton. The kind of biryani in which you will come across the occasional bay leaf or cardomom pod. The cauliflower 65 remained crunchy throughout.
Compared to the rest o the meal, the dried fish served as the meen varuval was disappointing, though on its own is probably pretty good.
I will be thinking about the dosai vadacurry for some time to come.
