I found a few reports of the old Chef Woo in Cupertino, but none of its new location -- and slightly altered spelling -- in Newark. Tired of the mostly tragic offerings at the Marina deli (apart from their you tiao, which isn't bad), I made the trek yesterday morning.
According to the friendly staff, the owner got tired of the sky-rocketing rents in Cupertino and decided to move north. Interestingly, it's about a mile and a half from where 85 Degrees is rumored to be opening...
I had xian dou jiang, dan bing you tiao (?) and ci fan tuan. Salty soy was of the thin variety. Soy is fresh but I had to scoop deep to bring up the flavor. Be sure to stir frequently. Donut was lovely, not oily at all, and the omelet with the garlic sauce was absolutely fantastic. Rice in my roll wasn't as grainy as HTP, but the filling was nicely crunchy. I wonder if they can shove an egg in it...
Really want to go back and try their shao bing and tian dou jiang.
