I finally caught a rerun of the new Check Please last night and I just don't think it could be worse. They actually reviewed Fogo de Chao and one of the Mia Francesca outposts. If they had taken notes from the Trib's Cheap Eats, they could have added Jimmy John's as their third choice for the night and had a clean sweep of safe, unenlightening places to visit.
The guests were, as usual, uneven. My favorite part, though, was the woman who just loved the polenta at Fogo and stated that she had never had it before, then explained that the main reason that Sweet Maple Cafe is the best restaurant in Chicago is due to the grits (anyone reading Chowhound knows that they are the same thing). She also complained because she had to wait 20 whole minutes to seat her family including small kids at Francesca on a crowded night and then was not treated like royalty. She proceeded to slam the place mercilessly. No knowledge of food, no understanding of decorum, no intercession or explanation by the new host. Check Please rolls on.
