cheap veg-friendly OC dinner?

Constant Velocity | May 20, 200310:57 PM     2

I'm a San Francisco chowhound visiting my SO in Irvine for the long weekend. In a rare and delightful gesture, he has offered to take me to the restaurant of my choice in the greater Irvine region, but . . .

I don't know the area at all.

I love meat, but he's an orvo-lacto fish-eating vegetarian type.

He's very very . . . um, how shall we say? . . . thrifty? frugal? $10 per entree would probably be pushing it.

We both like spicy foods of any ethnic variety, though, and are very open minded. We were planning on dinner, but if there's a lunch place more within our budget, that could work too. Any ideas?
