I am meeting my family in St Louis to join them on my brother's college trip around the South (Indiana to Memphis to Charlotte back to Indiana). They are from chain-restaurant-choked Northern Indiana, are not foodies, and have not built up any adventuresome culinary appreciation. Food commonly referred to as "ethnic" is out. However, I would like to go with them to some place that gives a sense of St Louis as a place and also provides an authenic, quick, cheap meal - one that I, myself, might even enjoy (even though they just want to hit the road and would settle for Burger King). Some authentic grab-and-go local lunchspot (without waitservice) would be perfect.
St Louis on a budget does not seem to have come up lately on this board but these less-expensive, casual spots have been mentioned:
Crown Candy Kitchen
Sen Thai and Wasabi have also been mentioned but they seem too "ethinic" for my family. Drewes seems like a good place to stop for dessert on the way out of town but does not seem to actually serve lunches.
Can anybody recommend one of the above places over any other for my purposes? Or does anyone have a better suggestion?
Please help me swap something in place of Burger King.
I am from Seattle and I'm constantly scouring the country for something as good and casual our Salumi lunchspot.
