Cheap Omakase/High Quality Sushi in LA?

NitWit | Feb 15, 201607:11 PM     4

I'll be going to LA in a 2 months and am looking for suggestions. I have heard great things about the sushi in California and want to have an omakase experience, but only around or under $40. Other suggestions for places for just great, high quality sushi are welcome too.
Here are some places I've been considering (I'd love Feedback and suggestions on these places as well) :

Sushi Gen for sashimi lunch, or the sashimi deluxe at dinner. Anyone know what it comes with at dinner? I know at lunch it's served with tofu, rice, and soup. Another idea there is omakase. What's the price/quantity?

Toshi Sushi:
I saw a Toshi Sushi Combination for 19.95 on their lunch menu on yelp. It looked like it came with toro, uni, snapper, and other fish that could be seen on an omakase plate. Anyone know more about it? Is it served at dinner? I've also heard of their omakase, is it usually around $50? (Picture of sushi combo attached)

SUGARfish:
Is the experience worth it? I definitely know there's nothing else like it that I've seen. The menu looks pretty good, but the fish seem kind of generic and not too unique.

Sushi Spot:
Heard the omakase was only $35 per person, has it been updated? Does it include things like toro and uni?

Kanpachi:
Read that it was $33pp, again, is it still that price? Also, what are some things that are included in it?

Again, any other suggestions are greatly appreciated!

So far, I'm definitely going to sushi gen. There's one more spot left.
