cheap *good* eats for grad students all over NYC

Hi everyone,

I am an out-of-town law student (former New Yorker) helping put together a guide for fellow students who will be living and working the NY-area this summer. This guide is not for the summer associates at big name firms being wined and dined all the time; it's for the students working in government and non-profit and living on a tight budget.

I'd love to compile a list of the best inexpensive (or lower-end of moderate) restaurants all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. By "best" I mean best food, best bang-for-your-buck, best atmosphere, most original. The more diversity of neighborhoods and cuisines, the better.

Also, places around the main business areas of the city - midtown, grand central, city hall area - are particularly welcome for ideas for lunch, or even dinner after work.

Thanks for your help!
