Just read mention of a market in East LA with 11¢/pound oranges. The Hawaii Super Market (Valley at Del Mar in San Gabriel) has'em for 9¢, of course I don't know for how long...we were running down to a friend's house in Long Beach and picking them for free, but with the price of gas this is a hell of a lot cheaper!
Hawaii SM is easily the cheapest place for lots of stuff - green beans, asparagus, all of the cool Asian-type greens. Frozen boneless NZ lamb shoulders are $2.59/lb, and run about 2 to 2 1/2 pounds each. They're in the freezer next to the duck tongues, the lamb cojones and the alligator meat...damn, I love LA!
