Cheap Chinatown Places for Dinner

I feel silly that I don't know this, so I'm asking for help in case I run into the same situation again. Are there any restaurants in Chinatown, specializing in Cantonese dishes, that have dishes around $4-$5/dish for dinner that is not noodles/lunch style? I'm talking about simple dishes like Beef w/Beancake and Chicken w/Double Mushroom.

Last Friday night, my husband picked me up and drove to Chinatown so we could get some cheap take out food. It was past 7:00, so the steam kitchen places were closed, and he had already told his parents to make rice, so we were planning to get 5 take out dishes of "soong" not noodles or lunch style food. I didn't know where to go, so I even called a friend who used to work in Chinatown for suggestions. I asked, "Can you tell me where I can get take out for like $4 -$5 a dish? She said the corner of Kearny and Sacramento (Bo Ma in Chinese, I think); otherwise Hing Lung for Yuet Lee, but did sound a little stumped.

My husband dropped me off in front of Bo Ma; I looked at the menu, but everything was about $9-$10/dish, so hopped back into the car and we went to Hing Lung. My husband dropped me off at the corner of Broadway and Stockton as I went to Hing Lung, saw that most of their dishes were in the porridge and noodles realm and that their "soong" dishes were around the $9/dish, and then proceeded to Yuet Lee. Their prices were also in the same price range, but I was getting discouraged, so I placed my order for five dishes that I paid $44 total.

I felt that there are several places in the Sunset that had pretty cheap food, so Chinatown should be even cheaper, but that didn't quite work out. I suspect that we may need to run this errand again and would like to be better prepared. Thanks!
