Recently spent a couple days in Boca. These are the joints we patronized. Nothing too fancy on this trip:
Grinders Hot Grill, Dixie Hwy @ Glades: Has gone seriously downhill. It's now "off the list," as we say.
Nino's Pizza, Powerline @ Palmetto Park, right next to the popular but (I am told) awful Sweet Tomatoes: First time here, liked it a lot. Good eggplant parm sub and serious garlic rolls. Cheap too.
Kyojin Sushi Buffet, on Powerline just north of Palmetto Park: Much better than an AYCE sushi joint should be. Huge variety of rolls that are constantly being replenished and enough other stuff to please non-sushi-eaters. $16.95 for dinner buffet is a very good deal.
Mississippi Sweets BBQ, North Federal Hwy between Glades and Spanish River: As good as ever. We got dinner combos (ribs and chicken, ribs and catfish, etc.) Big portions and the namesake sweet potato chips were great.
Jersey Mike's, Glades just east of Lyons Rd: first time trying this place. It's part of a chain, I guess. Pretty good cheesesteaks, but could have used some hots to kick it up a notch.
Flakowitz's, North Federal @ 20th St.: Still a great spot if you're very hungry. We got some sable that was as luscious as I remembered from days of yore (when we called it carp). Excellent blueberry pancakes too.
Toojay's, Regency Plaza on Yamato Rd.: Dependable spot for sandwiches and other deli stuff. Quite popular.
