Chains: Not great, not loveable, but useful

I generally avoid chains, but sometimes there's just no other good option.

Example: You find yourself in Fayetteville NC at night and you're starving. Fayetteville is not a good restaurant town.

Should you try one of the many Chinese restaurants you pass? Not me. How about a recommendation from the bored front desk clerk? Surely he will know some place with interesting, fresh food, right? LOL

Personally, I'd see if there's a local outpost of Smithfield's Chicken and Ribs, a statewide chain that is quite decent. Fayetteville, despite its location, is not even a good barbecue town. Barring that, I'd open the Yellow Pages and looking for a chain that I knew wouldn't kill me.
