A year ago I met my chowpal at Palms Springs airport and offered him two dinner options:
1) 10pm, earliest dinner reservation at a known place in Palm Springs or
2) Dash to Palm Dessert before the kitchen closes in 29 minutes to try the cevapcici at Alps Village, a 21-minute drive.
He picked the latter, and studied the menu online while I drove so that we could arrive hot and ready to order.
The Croatian cevapcici app, $15, to share offered a pile of the grilled beef finger sausages sandwiched in soft lepinja bread. Accompanied with raw white onion and kajmak spread, but I forgot to ask for ajvar. Wonderful nonetheless, and filling. I really didn't need the chicken paprikash with spaetzle I'd ordered as a main, and most of it went home with me. He had the homey cabbage rolls with spaetzle and a liter of beer. I was happy to check off the fourth version of this Balkan specialty I've managed to try.
The staff were very nice dealing with the last customers of the day. The food served in big portions was tasty, hearty and inexpensive. Alps Village is an easy choice, especially if you're into beer.
