I just walked past the empty store next door to the new Jacques Torres location on Amsterdam and W73rd to finally find a sign in the front window. Cesaer Casella's Salumeria Rossi (Italian gourmet imports) is slated to open this Fall. Based on the sign's details and this website below, looks like it will have some tables and be serving wine, panini, pasta, coffee, etc.
Perhaps less exciting (or at least for me) is the banner in the front window of the former San Luigi a block up. Looks like we're getting another Chinese/Sushi place taking up the ENTIRE space; the banner appears on all San Luigi windows. There is no specific name announced but I feel like we're going back in time as the restaurant before Luigi was a Chinese restaurant that didn't seem to last for a year. I'd be cheering louder than anyone else if we finally got a great, authentic Chinese restaurant up here but I don't have a good feeling this will be it. BTW, how many sushi restaurants do we need in one, five-block radius?
