Central Kitchen lunch

I've been meaning to post about this for a while -- it's become my default "nice" lunch option in Central Square -- and I heard today that they may shut down lunch service if it doesn't get busier. So I took that as a sign to post now. It would be a shame if it closed, it's a really nice place to take a break in the middle of the day.

They serve sandwiches, salad, and a daily soup special from the bar, along with excellent homemade potato chips. I'm partial to the Cubano, which is definitely non-traditional and upscale for a Cuban -- grilled on Iggy's foccacia, which gets wicked crispy and tasty, with Niman Ranch pork and fancier pickles and remoulade. As I say, NON-traditional, but really damn good.

The salad nicoise is also very good, and generously portioned, although sometimes a tiny bit underseasoned. And I had a roasted fennel and aioli "mini-sandwich" there (they also have a mini-sandwich of the day, although the price is not so mini) that knocked me out. I've also had a taste of a grilled mushroom panini that was pretty great. And all the soups I've had have been very very good as well.

It's a little pricey -- between 8 and 9 dollars for most of the sandwiches -- but it's a nice place to hang out -- swankier atmosphere than most other places in the Square, chill music playing, cool staff. So, at the risk of sounding like a booster, if you're thinking of going, go *now*, before they stop serving lunch!!
