A stroke of luck found me off work for FOUR whole days!!!---whhheeeeee!

Oldest pup and I snuck off to lunch at Roscoes Chicken and Waffle--the one on Pico. I had my usual Carole C. In ever frightening homage to his increasing appetite, my pup had the Scoes with two waffles, a leg and a thigh. We shared an order of greens and a bisquit with gravy. Of course there was WAY too much food but better than too little, right? Pup devoured much of the bisquit and gravy, his chicken leg down to the bone and 1 1/2 of his waffles. He decided that he liked the greens better with a dash of the Louisiana hot sauce [the stuff with the rooster on it] and I must say, the vinegar and spice was just right. We sighed at the end of the meal:

"mama," says the pup, "that was so good. you know, some people eat at pizza hut!"
"I know darling son, its hard to believe."

We packed the leftovers to eat for breakfast....

From there we stopped by home to pick up the little pup and then headed to IKEA for a wee bit of shopping [HAH!]. Shopping at IKEA [and playing in the ball room] can make one awfully hungry, not to mention the 100+ heat in the valley on Friday. Then we got caught in the fire traffic going through Los Feliz. 30 minutes to go about 2 blocks.....

Nothing to do once we cleared the traffic but declare it a night for an ice cream dinner and off to Scoops we went.

We tried:
apricot brandy---little pieces of chopped dried apricot, not as much of a brandy taste as the earlier white chocolate brandy;
peanut butter chai--peanut butter with a hint of cinnamon and all those chai spices;
rhubarb-pear sorbet--nice rhubarb flavor, didn't detect much pear;
apple cheesecake--usual cheese cake bits & seemed to be drizzled with caramel sauce;
papaya-rambuttan sorbet--strong papaya with a nice whack of rambuttan;
coffee-dulce leche--nice coffee with dulce de leche hit;
lavender raseberry--didn't like as much as the strawberry lavender of a few weeks ago but then I'd sell my soul for more of that and it didn't stop me from picking it; and
saffron/cardemon/juniper---didn't really detect the juniper but OHMYGOOOOOODD, scandinavian Christmas in an ice cream; Lucia morning buns and christmas bread. I cross my fingers that I can get some of this for Christmas to take to the Swedish school festivities.

Smallest pup had the peanut butter-chai; bigger pup had apple cheesecake. I had the saffron cardemon and the lavender raseberry.

Today was my birthday. What better way to conclude the celebrations than another trip to Scoops?

Tonight we tried:
blueberry peach sorbet--really lovely tongue dying blue with a wonderful blueberry flavor;
white chocolate hazelnut--like nutella only with white chocolate, strong hazelnut with lighter chocolate tones;
chocolate raseberry--very much like chocolate mousse only with raseberry, very creamy very tasty;
olive oil-pine nuts--you read that right. mmmmmm, another not very sweet but intriguing flavor, strong tone of green olive oil, hint of pine nuts but the pine nuts seemed to be toasted so they reminded me of those coffee nibs in chocolate [in a GOOD way, mind you];
apricot brandy--still very tasty but I think I have solved the "mystery" of why sometimes people say that they find the ice cream icey--the fresh flavors are very "fluffy," like the standard homemade type of ice cream but if they are in the freezer overnight, the texture sometimes changes. The texture was a bit different today from Friday but still very very good.

In the end, I had the olive oil pine nuts plus the chocolate raseberry. I didn't plan on the olive oil one--I just wanted to try it but found myself needing more. Oldest pup went for the blueberry peach sorbet--he is becoming very very fond of sorbet. And we picked out white chocolate hazelnut and apricot brandy for the husband. Alas! he was too stuffed from a day of dining [its how we celebrate a birthday] that his ice cream is in the freeze right now with only a couple of bites missing--well, I had to taste it to make sure it was okay, right? And besides, being stuffed from a day of eatting didn't stop him from taking multiple bites of my olive oil ice cream on the ride home.

The only sad part is that Scoops is closed until Tuesday. Okay, okay, I guess I'm not the only person who needs a bit of a break....but when Tuesday lunch comes: get thee to Scoops!
