Hello, Chowhounders. I will be traveling to NOLA for a week, for the first time, in late October (including over Halloween). I've developed a list of places for "nice" dinners but that won't be my focus -- I'll be lucky if I have one decent outfit with me, as most of my daytime adventures will involve lots of walking, kayaking, birding, etc. I'm curious about two things that I haven't seen discussed much on this forum. First, what about casual places to stop by, in all sorts of mid-city neighborhoods (Marigny, Frenchmen, Treme, Bywater, St Claude, etc), if one happens to be walking by? Anything in particular to look for -- or to look *out* for? Second, are there (still casual) places on the outskirts of town worth checking out? We're particularly interested in out-of-the-way small, local-focused music venues with food that at least reaches "okay" on the foodie scale. Thanks! I promise to report back after the trip, of course.
