Hubby and I are having a party in a couple of weeks, and I could use the expertise of the chowsters. Saturday night, called for 7 pm, about 50 people. I plan on serving a variety of "substantial" munchies -- hot stuff like sweet n sour meatballs, stuffed mushroom caps, spanikopita, miniature knishes, and the like, and cold stuff, like cocktail shrimp, a large cheese platter, crudite and dips, hummus, marinated olives. Oh, and platters of finger-food desserts like profiteroles, brownies, and fruit. For drinks I'm thinking beer, a house red and a house white wine, sodas, hot apple cider, champagne punch and coffee.
I guess I've got one real question, unless the chowsters have other comments. First, how in the world do I determine amounts to purchase for both food and drink? (For instance, would I be better served by getting a partial keg instead of bottled beer?) How many bottles of wine? How many meatballs?
Oh, and I'd love to hear your ideas on other food items that won't keep me in the kitchen the entire evening of the party!
