The Castro's Lounge decision: Where to next?

Googs | Jan 26, 202009:09 AM     11

It seems to me that this started as an application of labour law. That is, the co-owner harassed a liquor inspector. Oh and he did it on social media. (Don't get me started on how stupid, imperious, and likely alcohol-fueled that was.) The act(s) (there appears to be more than one incident) constituted an unsafe workplace for the inspector. This was remedied by barring the owner from his own establishment.

The co-owner then violated a court order and entered Castro's anyway. (Did I mention imperious?) Now, not only does he have to stay away, he has to give up all ownership AND Castro's has to go without a liquor license for two weeks.

So the question here is, will regular bar and restaurant employees be given this same clout in the fight against harassment in the workplace or is this only for government employees? It sure would give owner's pause if they knew they could lose it all. It could vastly improve the welfare of the workers.

Whaddaya say Hounds? How about you, Doug Ford?

To save Castro’s Lounge, co-owner says he’ll give up his share of the bar The Star

The Queen Street East venue’s liquor licence is under threat after a clash between the co-owner and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
