Cast iron grill made tri-tip roast spectacular!

EclecticEater | Nov 17, 200605:07 AM

I own a Weber Silver B grill and have stainless steel grates. Because they are spaced widely and don't have the same qualities as cast iron, I bought a Sunbeam Grill Topper on eBay which is made of cast iron with two handles and slots through which the flame can cook and flavor any meat, fish or poultry. This is similar to a Lodge grill that will be available next month as shown at

Thought I'd share that I bought a tri-tip, about two pounds, at Stader Brothers locally. I used Porterhouse and Roast Seasoning made by Lindberg-Snider and sprinkled it liberally over the tri-tip. Then I grilled it with the cover closed, turned it over after five minutes, and then cut the center flame and let it roast for about thirty-five minutes. Took it off, tented it, the temp was about 150 F.

The tri-tip was spectacular and the reason for it was the cast iron grill. The tri-tip was rare, very flavorful and, after resting, very tender. As good as any roast beef and most steaks. Haven't had such flavorful beef in a long time.

So you Weber users might want to dig up some old cast iron grill and try using it. Wanted to share all this because it made such a difference.
