I know there are a lot of cast iron experts out there and i was wondering if one of you guys could satisfy my curiosity.
I have this old cast iron self-basting dutch oven (griswold-made in erie, pa). I don't remember when or where i found it, but it was many years ago. I didn't buy it new, i think i might have found it at a yard sale.
Lately, i've noticed that what i think of as the black, cast iron "seasoning" is rubbing off (??) and underneath is what appears to be shiny, smooth stainless steel!
What is this pot? Is it cast iron? Is it something else?
how do i take care of it? I've been treating it like cast iron and rendering lard in it, but is there something else i need to do?
any info would be appreciated.
