Casaba Meze and Shisha Bar

Had been recced a Japanese izakaya on Essex Road called Akari so headed there at lunchtime today to meet a friend only to find that the online Time Out review had got it wrong in stating that the place opens weekday lunchtimes.

Didn't have a Plan B so we wandered up Essex Road and stumbled across Casaba which proved to be a rather charming 6 month old Turkish cafe serving a delicious and filling £5 plate of assorted meze which we washed down with some Turkish apple tea. Not a bad option if you find yourself in the nabe, they also offer some sandwiches, home made baklava and various Turkish sweets and, according to their flyer, some seafood, meat and veg options. Come the summer they will have a small terrace in use for shisha smoking.

The menu at Akari read well and I will be checking it out tomorrow evening instead, apparently they have good ramen which is always worth knowing about.
