Casa Mono- review

ChrisZ | Feb 21, 2004 02:09 PM

Greetings fellow chow hounds,

Went to dinner/ on a date last night to Casa Mono one of Marios places. I did not have a reservation so I put our name down on the list and went over to the underbar at the W. The underbar was interesting crappy service, girl did not bring back my change which was around $10, claimed I told her to keep it which I didn't. I wound up giving her the $10 anyways but wanted to make a point.

So it took about 45minutes to get a table not bad for a friday. Sat at the bar, which in my opinion can be more fun.

We ordered a bottle of marques de murrieta Neonato. I have had the bottle before very simple straightforward Rioja. Not overly complex but good and worked with most if not all of the dishes. Honestly the bottle is a good deal at $24.

Food Wise(sorry no menu so I wll do my best)- had the pumpkin and goat chesse. Very nice the goat cheese worked well with the pumpkin. I was wondering if they were using Coach Farms finest being the realtionship with Mario.

Jamon- decent. I thought the jamopn was a little overpriced compared to what you pay for a larger serving of proscutto over at Lupa and I think the prosiutto is better quality than the ham. Not saying it was not good it was.

Dorada- this was probably the best dish of the bunch. Well prepared, very flavorful and most moist. The 10 of the bunch.

Oxtails- great flavor and taste worked really well with the wine.

Coffee was nice and dessert was a decently done Crema Caralana

Overall a very enjoyable dinner. Good company and a good meal. Good variety of stuff at all price ranges. Sitting at the bar watching the kitchen work was enjoyable. Service was friendly all though a bit slow at times. This was no the waitresses fault just more due to the fact they were crowded.

Total Price of Bill including wine, food and tax $86.90
