Caribbean Food

Last night, I made a run to Colonial Drive(AKA SW 160th Street just west of US 1) to pick up potato and channa roti from Caribbean Delite, a Trinidadian takeout with one table. They also have a lot of the typical Trinidadian specialties, doubles, paratha, shut up bus, etc. I don't know what all their stuff is because no matter how many times I go there, I cannot understand the woman's patois behind the counter. If you like your roti hot and spicy, she'll incomprehensibly ask you, "Pepper?" A few doors down, past the barber shop and record store, Sango is serving Chinese Jamaican foods for takeout only. Wednesday's specials include Jerk and Curry Chicken as well as pepper pot. They are always serving a steady stream of loyal customers. The stew fish and Escoveitch wings are tasty. A block away, Islands just opened, also serving Jamaican food but with table service. Near this is new barbecue joint and a fine Asian grocery store. My wife picked up patties from Sonia's in Kendall which is outstanding; everything is made to order, including scrumptious lobster patties when they have them. I live here, so I'm simply providing information for those of you who want to try this stuff. It's all over Miami like I imagine it's all over New York.
