I hadn't been back to the Kendall area in 25 years until last night when I had occasion to revisit the area and decided to try Captain's Tavern on Dixie Hwy. I remembered that I enjoyed eating there when a student in the area and couldn't believe in today's world where restaurants come and go, that they were sitll in business. Not only were they still in business; but the ambiance (what there is of it) was remarkably the same as I remembered. It seemed as though nothing had changed over time, except for the prices, which also hadn't changed that much over the years. The menu still had the items I used to enjoy ordering, such as the Cataplana medley, and many more additions that seemed to be more in vogue given today's trends My husband ordered the Cataplana and after sampling it, had to agree that it was taste for taste exactly how I remembered it. I had the miso honey salmon which was very tasty. The portions on both servings were large. The salads and rolls that accompanied the dinners were nothing special; yet they also were in keeping with my memory. All in all we enjoyed a very pleasant meal which accompanied conversation filled with shared memories of a quarter century ago. Sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same.
