Calling All You Smart Chemists!

This question is coming from a science-impaired brain. It's about Ice. Background: I have this passion for chewing on ice made from store-bought spring water. (Surprisingly, it is very diff from ice made from our local reservoir water. This ice I love to chew , after it has sat in liquid or not -for awhile, has impurities that manifest as shale-like crystals (flat sheets, not granular like sand. And no, I'm not nutrient-deficient.)

My big question is this: whenever i eat this ice, whether one cube or ten, my mouth gets SUPER dry/cotton mouthy. Is the ice drawing moisture out of my skin/vessels/ ? Is this some chemical principal that also affects frozen food when kept in a self-defrosting freezer? Thx for your help for a layman.
