Cake for trifle, pound or sponge?

I've been making a raspberry trifle for Christmas and usually use a homemade pound cake, recipe from Fine Cooking.

But thought it might be lighter with a Genoise.

Which do others prefer, Pound, Sponge, Genoise or something else?
