caffe casta diva

I hate to say it, but this has only happened once before and I feel a need to report back.

I went to Caffe Casta Diva last night and had a less than amazing meal! This happened once before, about two year's ago - but upon return several months later everything had improved.

My favorite salad is no longer on the menu but was available as a special (the salad with warm artichoke with a balsamic reduction, mixed greens and roasted peppers). This was consitent with previous visits and was wonderful.

For an entree I had the ricotta gnocchi with mushrooms. I remember the ricotta making the gnocchi lighter and creamer, but they tasted as dense as the potato version.

For dessert I ordered one of my favorite desserts in the city - their ricotta cheese cannoli with chocolate chips. Usually this dessert really hits the spot - the ricotta is slightly sweet and light and is a great conclusion to my meal. This time I found the dish heavy and slightly overly sweet.

The service great as usual although she seemed overly busy with no busperson or server to help with the entire restaurant.

All in all a pretty good meal - far from the best I have had there. Hopefully this was just a one night deal, because if I had never been there before I may not have been eager to rush back.
