Cafe Saint Ex report

A friend and I went to Cafe Saint Ex (14th and T NW) last night for a late dinner and a few drinks. The place just opened this past Saturday. The decor is great and the staff very friendly. My friend reported that the downstairs was very smoky, but the main floor at the bar, where we were, was fine. Unfortunately, I did end up smelling like smoke when I got home, so I guess that's the BAR aspect of the place.

They only have a limited menu right now (what will be their late night menu), so that's what we ordered from. We started with a plate of marinated olives, cornichons, and bread ($4)--the olives were very good, but we had to ask for butter for the bread. I had the swiss/pastrami/duxelles panini ($6) which was fine, but nothing special, and my friend had a burger ($6), which he liked. The fries that accompany both were really good and so was the homemade ketchup (btw, you can get a place of fries separately--would be great with a couple of beers). The drinks were well made. So, all in all the food was quite good for the price. A great addition to the neighborhood.
