The new café & restaurant in the Boston Public Library opened up about 2 weeks ago. I havent been but a friend of mine is working in the restaurant and gave me the scoop. They have the Map Room Café which serves breakfast (pastries, muffins, bagels, tea breads, fruit), lunch (soups, salads, sandwiches) and desserts and snacks. The restaurant, Novel, does both lunch and afternoon tea. They have a lunch buffet of soup, salad, sandwiches, pizza, and a daily entrée selection w/vegetable and side dishes ($15.95 per person). The afternoon tea is tiered as in other places ($9.95-$19.95 pp). I hopefully take the lack of specificity on the menu to mean that theyre planning on switching up the tea sandwiches and scones fairly regularly. The whole place is run by Sebastians catering, which does stuff downtown in the financial district but Im not very familiar with them. It seems like it could be a nice, simple place. The area does sort of have a lack of places where a fella could read a good book over lunch (Tealuxe is probably their nearest competition) and a café/restaurant in the library (duh) seems perfect.
