Cafe Parvaneh - Chapel Hill, NC

I'd been meaning to get here for a while, and finally thought of doing it tonight. After giving the online menu a once-over, I decided to call and ask for what's best. Didn't get too much direction, but my suggestion of a lamb & eggplant dish was reinforced by the owner-guy. He did actually talk me out of also ordering some kebobs, saying i'd be better off eating those alone, and this I found somewhat encouraging for some reason.

Menu describes it as sauteed lamb, but it's more stewed than anything else. Eggplant is as well, so it's mushy, which I'm not usually too big a fan of. There were also some yellow lentils, and some potently flavourful tomatoes, all on a very big bed of saffron basmati. It was really good, and tasted like it was made 2 minutes before it was in my mouth. It's not spicy by any means (not unlike Persian food), but the flavours are still bold. Only beef with it was they were pretty skimpy with the stew, which leaves alot rice feeling pretty lonely.

I'll be trying out more of the menu for sure.
