After my disappointment at Sultans, I went to this deli..down a few steps..on the corner of Milk and Devonshire. Looks like a lot of other places in the financial district, but the overall quality is much better. They have pizza (so so) and a lot of the usual Italian pasta dishes. They also do some non Italian dishes..fresh roast beef on occassion. Today I got a fresh turkey platter..huge amount of a combo of white and dark, choice of rice, mashed, or mac and cheese, and a salad..all for $6.50..and grilled, garlic pita toast...1/2 the meal is left for tomorrow. This turkey was great.
In contrast, last week, I had a turkey sandwich at Grass Roots Deli...a few blocks away on Devonshire. Grass Roots used to be very good (they were among the first to regularly roast a turkey in downtown for their sandwiches..as opposed to processed turkey roll) They came under new ownership a few years ago, and the new people have drastically cut back on the quality of the ingredients..and the size of the portions. My sandwich last week had just a few small slices of meat. It's on my "downhill list."
