Cafe du Pays (Kendall Square, Cambridge MA)

BostonBestEats | Mar 20, 201803:38 PM     4

I'm surprised there is no thread for Cafe du Pays in Kendall Square, a block from One Kendall Sq, in the old Hungry Mother space (or at least I can't find one...is there something going on with Chow this evening, it seems super slow?). It was the Eater Boston's 2017 Restaurant of the Year.

I've been there a bunch; it's excellent and interesting. And not just because it's French-Canadian, which is showing up all over the place (unfortunately, usually as poutine, which I think is a wast of good French fries!), but a uniquely Massachusetts version of just French-Canadian, apparently related to the significant immigration that has occurred in the area in past decades.

On our last visit, we enjoyed some Eel Lake oysters (Nova Scotia), excellent cocktails, wine and...

NETTLE PANNISE: With local conch (pannise are French or Italian chickpea fritters)

Beautiful, bi-level space with a cool 5-seat bar. Service is great (met one of the owners, Elan and his cute daughters), and they validated parking at Kendall Square Cinema garage ($3 instead of $25!).

They'll even run over and buy you movie tickets and have them ready by the end of your meal!!!
