CADIZ and nearby Costa de la Luz

I just had my entire post wiped out, so will be more brief here. Very annoyed at this site.

I just returned from a two week visit to Sevilla and Cadiz, with a one-day foray by taxi to the nearby towns of Barbate and Zahara de los Atunes.

I hope to find time to write my notes on Sevilla later, but not sure due to my current annoyance with this site. I had 8 nights there and stayed at the Hotel Mercer, which was perfectly located for food exploration.

I stayed at the Parador in Cadiz, which is on the sea and had good breakfasts. Well located, once again.

EL FARO. This is the most famous bar/restaurant in Cadiz, with a sibling in nearby Puerto Santa Maria. I had two meals here at the bar and am now a big fan of this restaurant. One has to fight to make one's way to the bar to order at peak hours, but on my second visit, I arrived at opening time and had the place almost to myself for about 45 minutes.

Their Tortillita de Camarones, a shrimp pancake that is a signature of this coast and a distant relative of a Korean seafood pancake. This one, unlike one I sampled in Sevilla at Bodega Antonio Romero, was without grease and filled with tiny shrimp. Just a perfect rendition of the dish, in my unexperienced opinion.

Erizo de Mar was one of a few seasonal urchin (ricci de mare) specials: Two large sea urchins filled with a tartar of white shrimp and a foam of their eggs, with a lemon thyme. Perfect!!

Berberechos, Small clams with ridged shells from Galicia. Daily special; perfect rendition, 16 euro for 200 grams. Drank Don Diego amontillado.

They did not have fried ortiguillas, sea anemone which are a signature dish of the area, so I ordered a croqueta of ortiguillas which was lovely.

If I lived in Cadiz, I'd be at EL FARO every night! At the bar, not at the adjacent restaurant, which has a separate entrance and where I did not eat.
