Where do you buy your meat in Houston?

Rick | Nov 3, 2003 10:31 AM

I reported earlier that I had found an excellent source of meat in Houston.

I used to buy from Pete's Fine Meats, but wasn't completely satisfied, then I found The Butcher Shoppe on Memorial, where I could buy "Prime" completely trimmed beef Tenderloins for $21.00 per pound. I loved this place, then it closed.

I've tried Central Market, but it is sooo expensive for what they call "prime". I then started buying Meat from Belden's supermarket on Braeswood, and I was totally satisfied with their Angus beef in the counter. Filets for $17.99 and whole tenders for $15.99. This last weekend I went to Belden's and their filets were $24.99 per pound and the whole tenders were $21.99 untrimmed.

This is an increase of about 30% overnight.

Has meat prices gone up or do you think Belden's may have realized they have a loyal customer base that has no good options?

Where have you chow hounds found good meat (excellent) for realistic prices?
