I had plans to make the clementine cake and serve it with creme fraiche; however, the crowds at TJ's and the rain were prohibitive for traveling more than a few blocks. This meant I was limited to what I had on hand and what my corner grocery store carries. I toyed with making a bittersweet chocolate sorbet but ended up opting for a buttermilk and honey sorbet that I found on epicurious. I have a lot of honey and buttermilk can be found at almost any grocery store. It was a great choice. The honey complimented the oranges and nuts and the tanginess of the buttermilk brought out the tartness of the oranges. It was creamy without being too rich. I tweaked the sorbet recipe a little. I doubled the buttermilk and added about a teaspoon of vanila extract.
BTW, the clementine cake was great. It was really hard not slice up a piece right after it was done because it smelled incredible while it was baking.
