Burmese Food Fair

Ivan Stoler | Aug 9, 2003 07:13 PM

I just returned from the annual Briarwood Baptist Burmese food + fun fair. Despite the rain + gloom it seemed to have the biggest turnout I'd seen in 2-3 years. Had some meat on a stick @ the heavy metal kids table. Not good, too much lighter fluid on the bbq. But, how often do you have food served to you by Burmese metal heads? Much better was homemade raw papaya salad. Made fresh, by someone's mom in a mortar + pestle before your very eyes. Tasty, zingy and just right. Also, had some sort of chicken stew on rice noodles. Nice "round" dish w/great limey flavors. Those are the only dishes I could remember. Anyway, this fair never fails to excite and amaze me.
