Burgers; Egg Creams; Roast Pork .....

Just got home from another short in-and-out to NYC!! Got a great deal on a flight on American. Gawd, I love that city!!!!
PAUL'S - great burger - they minimally hand form a large patty for each order, and put a stainless steel cover on the burger while cooking. Never saw that before, don't know the rationale - but I loved the result. Better than JG Melon, on par with Burger Joint at Parker Meridien. And it is right next door to Gem Spa, for an egg cream.

RAY'S EGG CREAM - Finally found this unmarked place on Ave A. Not near as good as other egg creams I have had. GEM SPA is still the best - the milk is so cold that it has ice crystals in it and the right proportions of chocolate-milk-seltzer.

YUMMY NOODLE - It took discipline for me not to go to NY NOODLETOWN, but I wanted to try this place. Will stick with NY Noodletown - the roast pork soup was recommended to me but it was not near as good as at other places. And Yummy was not busy at near noon, which says something about a Chinatown place.

BARNEY GREENGRASS - Heaven on Earth for us Jewish appetizing types!!! And on Friday morning you can get a table, not be jostled and relax while eating sable and real, salty lox and reading the Times. Is there any place else so good for this genre of food?? Russ & Daughters is the place for take out, but it is a world away from UWS, and no place to sit.

PEARL OYSTER BAR - Continues to sparkle. They said it would be an hour wait on Friday night, and it was 55 minutes. Great steamers, and the whole snapper was worth forgoing the lobster roll this time.

Ate at BITE and SPARKY'S on Lafayette. Kudos for a great use of a little space, and good dogs and panini.

One more thing - I lost my cell phone while chowing on the dog in front of Sparky's - apparently nothing gets in my way when eating - and somebody found it on the ground and gave it to the people at Sparky's, who tracked me down by calling my last dialed numbers. New Yorkers are wonderful people and it is a great city. Looking forward to my next trip in May. Any haunts or dives with great food and great vibe I should check out??
