The Burger Doctor visited Kenny's and here is what he had to say

This is a new Burger Joint and they are on D-Magazine’s top 8 list of burger places in Dallas. They advertise cooking their burgers on a wood burning grill and you could definitely tell that was the case when you walked into the restaurant. It was a very pleasant smell and reminded me of a BBQ place. Kenny’s also serve many other items, but we were there for their “Silver Sterling” burgers.

This is an upscale restaurant where you are seated and wait on. They also feature a full bar along side with the restaurant. You also know that when you get a real napkin and not the usually paper napkin, you are in a good place.

They have quite an assortment of burgers (twelve to be precise) and one of them feature a 1 lb. burger with bacon, mushrooms, onions, cheddar and pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. Kenny calls it the Big Kahuna burger. Kenny also serve all burgers on fresh Ciabatta buns from la Spiga bakery in Addison, TX.

Burgers were priced from $6.49 to $8.49 and $12.99 for the 1 lb. burger. We were not in the mood for a 1 lbs burger, so we ordered two burgers to share. One was the Bacon Cheeseburger with white cheddar, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, pickles and mayo and a Black & Blue Burger with cajun spiced, blue cheese & dressing, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. We ordered them both cooked medium.

The wait was maybe 10 minutes which I would consider very good for this kind of restaurant. The burgers came opened so you can inspect the burger thoroughly. I was worried about the Ciabatta until I saw that it was soft and not like a traditional Italian Ciabatta that can be quite hard and tough.

The meat was the first thing you noticed in these burgers. The wood burning grill is definitely worth the money. The meat is just so much better than meat cooked on a griddle or normal gas fired grill. It was superior and can not be made any better in my opinion. Both burgers were cooked medium-well to well done. I am always disappointed when that happens but in this case the meat was still juicy and very tasty. The cheese was a better quality than the normal cheese you get at other places and the blue cheese actually tasted like blue cheese unlike most other places.

The fries were very similar to seasoned fries called Zesties. They were super crispy and seasoned well. These fries were among the better ones I have tasted.

Overall I think Kenny’s is doing a great job making burgers. The wood burning grill makes a big difference and all burger joints should get one of these grills. Their cheeses are high quality and well tasking cheeses and all their ingredients are fresh and delicious. I recommend Kenny’s for lunch but also for dinner. It is a great place to eat.
