Goff’s has been around for many decades in Dallas and I was visiting its newer location in North Dallas. Goff’s serve burgers and hot dogs and they have a few combos on the menu where you get both. I noticed there was a burger called “The Works”. If a burger is called that, I want it! I asked the nice girl at the counter what was in it and she mentioned so many things I lost track. From what I can recollect it had lettuce, tomato, relish, pickles, onions, hickory sauce, chili, cheese, and at least four more ingredients. I ordered it with a side of fries. No option how to have it cooked.
The restaurant was nice and clean but really had any personality to it. You went there to get a burger and that was it! The wait was short, maybe 5 minutes and the burgers were ready.
The patty was very thin and I would guess this was a 1/4 lbs burger at best. There was so much stuff under the patty that it was actually filling up more than haft of the burger. It was just too much and I haven’t even tasted it yet. At the first bite I knew I was right initially. There is just too much stuff in this burger that it actually made the burger taste cold even though the patty was hot. At times it was even like the burger was completely gone and all I was left with was a veggie sandwich. I was not very impressed. There is nothing wrong making a burger with everything but as a restaurant you have to adjust the amount of “everything” to make the burger a good burger. Don’t just fill it up with greens and condiments without thinking about the proportions to the patty. I think that had I taken all the extras out this would have been an okay (but tiny) burger. I really don’t know how the meat tasted since it was drowned in everything else. I am not sure I want to come back to try another burger though.
The fries were made from frozen and were actually quite decent. The were hot and crispy and with a good taste.
I personally think they should make the patties larger. 1/4 lbs patties doesn’t cut it today. Goff’s should do at least 1/3 lbs burgers and not load them up so much. “The Works” needs to slim down a bit so you can taste the meat. I will recommend not getting “The Works” and go with a more simple burger next time.
