Broke and in Paris for two weeks... recommendations?

Hi folks,

First time posting on International, I mostly post on the San Francisco board.

My sister and I are going to Paris on a whim day after tomorrow (!) for two weeks. Problem is, we're broke... but would love to experience real French food. Could we please hear recommendations for food places (restaurants, bistros, cafes, boulangeries, patissiers) in Paris? Recommendations on food items to bring back that aren't available in the Bay Area also very welcome.

Here are some details about our trip to help put things in context:
-- We're staying in the 5eme (with family, thank goodness, it'll help keep costs down). Are generally familiar with Paris cos we visit often, but have always been "guided" by our relatives...it's about time we strike out on our own ;).
-- We'll eat anything and everything; love strong cheeses, organ meats, pastries, breads etc
-- Love wandering around farmer's markets. We like Mouffetard but would be interested in others
-- We're open to going to a couple of cool places with good food, even if they're pricey. We're keeping costs down by using miles and staying with family, and if we eat like students most of the time, we could probably swing a couple of blowouts.

Bonus points for us if we can find a place to take our relatives to that they haven't tried!

Thanks very much,
