How to use my broiler

Yvonne | Nov 14, 2002 11:26 AM

I've recently moved into a new apartment with a gas range and oven. This is the first time I've encountered a broiler separate from the oven, underneath the main oven, actually. I'd like to make a recipe that calls for broiling cod on a rimmed baking sheet 8 inches from the heat source. I've linked the recipe below if it helps. How am I supposed to use my broiler? It doesn't look like 8 inches between the heat and the rack. Also, what am I supposed to do with the pan and rack with holes? Do I put the baking sheet on this pan or directly into the broiler rack? Do you think I could just bake the fish in the oven at 450 and save myself the hassle of remembering to move it from the broiler to the oven? Forgive my ignorance...
